Questions:
How do I become a member of the RFMGA?
The River Falls Mens Golf Association is
open to any male River Falls property owner. The yearly
dues are $60. To join, use the link on this website or fill out an
application available in the pro shop.
An Associate membership is available to those interested that are not
River Falls property owners, or course members.
I would like to be on the RFMGA board.
How do I do this?
Contact the President of the board and
let him know of your interest. If there is room, he can
appoint you as an alternate member. This is a non-voting position, but
it will give you an idea of how
the board functions. Once you have been on the board for a while, you
can ask to be considered
for nomination to a voting position for the following year. Should the
nominating committee not place
your name on the slate of officers, you can be nominated from the floor
at the general meeting
each year.
What are the positions on the RFMGA
board and what do they do?
The following are the elected and voting
positions on the RFMGA Board.
(President): Presides over Board meetings and is responsible for the
overall management of the
organization.
(Tournament Director): Determines schedules and formats for each years
tournaments.
(Secretary): Records minutes of the monthly board meetings, archives
necessary organizational
documents, and generally is responsible for the materials promoting
upcoming tournaments.
(Treasurer): Maintains financial records of the organization; manages
accounts payable and
receivable; and makes monthly financial reports to the board.
(Social Chairman): Develops and implements all social functions of the
RFMGA including pairings
parties, awards dinners and refreshments.
(Handicap): Represents the RFMGA on the River Falls Plantation Handicap
Committee
(Members-at-Large): There are four positions on the board. These members
assist the various
chairmen in their responsibilities. This position is usually held in the
first year of a board members
tenure.
(Alternates): These non-voting positions on the board are filled by the
President to bring new
individuals to the board each year. Anyone wishing to become a board
alternate should contact the
President.
How is the RFMGA Board chosen?
In accordance with the by-laws of the
RFMGA, the Board forms a nominating committee. This
nominating committee meets, develops a slate of officers for the
following year and presents the
slate to the general membership in the fall. Those attending the general
membership meeting then
vote on the slate of officers. Nominations for any position are taken
from the floor at this time.
Are the board members compensated?
No. The board is a voluntary position.
Can I attend an RFMGA board meeting?
Any RFMGA member in good standing can
come to an RFMGA board meeting. You can come to
observe; bring a specific complaint or grievance; or present an idea for
the organization. We ask
that you contact the President of the board prior to the board meeting
to insure there is time on the
agenda for that month.
How do I know whos on the board?
The RFMGA Board Roster can be found
elsewhere on this website.
Who oversees the board?
No one. The board members are elected by
the general membership tasked with the expressed
objective of promoting good fellowship and sportsmanship among its
members and encouraging the
active participation of the organizations membership in playing golf and
taking part in golf
tournaments conducted in accordance with the rules of the USGA, except
as modified by local rules
on the courses.
How many people are on the Board of
Directors?
The number may vary year-to-year due to
membership and need
How often does the board meet?
The board meets once each month a
tournament is scheduled. Various budget, tournament and
committee meetings are held as often as necessary.
Does anyone from the Golf staff have a
position on the board?
While a member of the staff does not formally serve on the board, a representative of the
staff is always at the
monthly board meeting
What do my dues pay for?
The dues paid by RFMGA members each year
make up the shortfall between the expenses of each
tournament and the amount collected through entry fees. The RFMGA
attempts to pay at least 25%
of the field for each event. The shortfall usually comes from the cost
of refreshments, special
events like pairings parties; and the payment of River Falls Plantation
for handicap maintenance.
The Men's Golf Association as a non-profit organization, will provide its
financial records to any member at any time.
What are some of the other expenses the
RFMGA incurs?
In addition to the payouts in each
flight and closest to the pin, the RFMGA pays for general
administrative expenses such as mailings, refreshments, at social events
like pairings parties and
the Annual Meeting.
Tournaments:
How do I sign up for tournaments?
You can sign up at the Pro Shop. You can
call the Pro Shop and ask that you be signed up;however, we recommend that you follow up the next time you are at the
club. The Pro Shop staff is
always very busy. You are not officially signed up until payment has
been received.
Who decides the formats and dates of the
RFMGA tournaments?
The Board meets with the
Pro Shop staff to establish the dates available for the
RFMGA tournaments. Every effort is made to avoid obvious holiday
conflicts.Any RFMGA
member may suggest a
format to the Tournament Chairman for inclusion in the following years
schedule.
Who sets the entry fees?
Entry fees for each tournament are
typically based off the previous year and changed only if costs have
increased, or changes are made to refreshments, etc.
Why can't the entry fees be lower? No
one likes to play for a lot of money?
This question is as old as the RFMGA
itself. At one time there was some kind of social function
before most tournaments or adult beverages provided. Participation in
our tournaments fluctuates
with each player's different perceptions of value. The RFMGA endeavors
to keep the entry fees low
enough so that all members can participate; yet high enough to pay a
larger percentage of the field
and provide the extras our membership enjoys.
If there is a question about the rules
in a tournament or situation involving another player, whom
can I go to?
The Golf Professionals in consultation
with the Tournament Chairman are responsible for all
decisions having to do with the rules of golf as they pertain to our
tournaments. USGA rules are in
effect, with some exceptions and local rules.
I don't like to play in RFMGA
tournaments because they take forever. What can be done?
Slow play is everyone's responsibility.
The RFMGA and the Pro Shop do not have the personnel to
marshal the pace of play during our tournaments. The club marshals do
provide a presence, but
each group needs to be responsible to keep up with the players in front
of them. The board is open
to any constructive suggestions to help solve this problem.
Handicapping:
Can I post scores outside of River
Falls?
Yes, you can post any away score. The
automated handicap system allows you to post away scores
as long as you have the course rating and slope which are listed on the
courses scorecard.
We have a lot of sandbaggers in my
flight. What's the RFMGA going to do about them?
This question is as old as golf itself.
The RFMGA Board has a handicap Chairman. His primary
responsibility is to represent the RFMGA on the River Falls Handicap
Committee and be a conduit
to that committee about specific problems encountered by an RFMGA
member. If you have a
question about another golfer, notify the Handicap Chairman in writing
of your questions or
grievance, and he will pass on your concerns to the club handicap
committee.
Feel free to email any questions you may have to the RFMGA and we will
be happy to answer
them as promptly as we can. |
